Food & Drinks, Restaurants & Producers

It feels like Åland is bursting with creativity regarding food, drinks, restaurants and producers right now. We do have a couple of breweries making craft beer, we have producers of fresh apple juice and ciders, of soft drinks, of cheese, meat, sausages, chocolate etc. Quite a few of these we can visit for tasting and buying directly from them.

We also do have many small summer cafés in idyllic locations, we have restaurants with different orientations. Let me make an itinerary or tell me you special interests, and then we will make plans from there!

Maritime Åland

Åland has a long maritime history. Here in Mariehamn you can visit Pommern, the beautiful tall ship in the Western Harbour. She is the only four-masted barque in an original state in the world.

I recommend a visit to the Maritime Museum at the same time. I will give you a guided tour there. My grandfather, Uno Mörn (in the collage of pictures) was a sea captain, who sailed around Cape Horn in South America on a cargo-carrying sailing ship more times than anyone else in the world.

I will tell you about Gustaf Erikson, who owned the largest fleet of sailing ships in the world. We may also visit the former home of Sven Eriksson who was captain on Herzogin Cecilie during the dramatic journey when she ran aground on the south Devon coast. His beautiful home is a museum and a café today.

Åland is still a society which is dependent on shipping, ships, cargoes, cruise ships, trade etc. I will tell you more about that!

Hike, Swim & Sauna at an Aland Cottage

This is a tour for 2-3 people. We will go in my little car to the northern parts of Aland to visit my family’s summer cottage. If you like to, we will take a short (but pretty steep) hike to Kasberget, behind the cottage, to admire the views over the fjordlike water below us, and the sea to the north.

If you would like to try the sauna (woodfire) I will heat if for you! From there there are only a few steps down to the water, if you would like to swim.

We will do some BBQ and have a lunch as well. After some relaxing hours out there, we will return to Mariehamn (or your hotel, camping etc, where you are staying).

“Åland Must See Tour”

There are so many nice things to Do & See when you are here - sometimes it is hard to choose! I love taking you to some of those more untrodden paths, but we do have some classical sights here and I will be more than happy to show them to you.

We can adjust it according to your interests, but some of these sights & stops are for example the The Bomarsund Fortress, The Kastelholm Castle & Jan-Karlsgården, Eckerö Post & Customs House, Getabergen, city tour in the town of Mariehamn (please, look at my Tours in Mariehamn).

An Abundance of Wild Orchids & Flowers!

The soil here on the Aland Islands is calcareous. This is one of the reasons we do have an abundance of orchids, especially in the spring. It is like walking in The Garden of Eden, when you visit Nåtö in May.

Let me show you these fantastic meadows if you come here in May or early June.

Are you interested? Please contact me here and let us make some plans 🌺.
