Los Angeles is the quintessential city of the Endless Summer, so even though Labor Day means the unofficial end of soaking up rays and enjoying the ocean breeze for many, LA will be going strong with music, art and food festivals throughout the holiday weekend.

North America’s largest county fair returns on August 31st, when the L.A. County Fair takes over the Fairplex in Pomona. The L.A. County Fair has something for the whole family, including endless choices of food, beer and wine gardens, live music, rides, petting zoos, and much, much more. Check the official website often for the latest updates and concert info.

In a career that spans over six decades, John Williams has composed some of the most iconic film scores in movie history, making audiences cheer, bringing them to tears and keeping them on the edge of their seats. Williams has won five Oscars, four Golden Globes, and 21 Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in 2000, and received a Kennedy Center Honors award in 2004. Renowned violinist Gil Shaham joins Williams for his annual Maestro of the Movies weekend at the Bowl, featuring a program of Williams’ biggest and best loved movie hits.

At Fiesta Hermosa, you can browse and shop the wares of 400 artists and crafters, including painters, photographers, ceramicists, jewelers and sculptors. Two stages feature live music: tribute bands perform on the Main Stage, while the Charity Beer & Wine Garden showcases rock n’ roll, zydeco, country and R&B. The Kiddie Carnival is sure to delight the little ones with a 30-foot slide, pony rides, a petting zoo, facepainting, and games for kids from 3 to 10 years old. Fiesta Hermosa takes place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with free admission.

Say goodbye to summer at Boddy’s Big Backyard, Descanso Gardens’ annual Labor Day bash. The all-day event is inspired by parties hosted by founder E. Manchester Boddy in the 1930s and 40s. Rachel Young leads a tour of the California Garden at 10 a.m. Enjoy the musical stylings of Incendio, a Latin guitar-world fusion band, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Under the Oaks Theater. Bring a picnic to enjoy on the Main Lawn, or purchase gourmet barbecue selections by Patina from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Best of all, the event is free with admission to Descanso Gardens.

From 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., celebrate the 231st Anniversary of the founding of Los Angeles with historic re-enactments, artisan demonstrations, exhibits, food, entertainment and plenty of birthday cake! The annual "Los Pobladores Historic Walk to Los Angeles" is an early morning re-enactment of the nine-mile walk from the San Gabriel Mission to found El Pueblo de Los Angeles at what is now Olvera Street. The event takes place each year over the Labor Day Weekend, timed to coincide with the September 4th anniversary of the city's founding. It is organized by the Los Pobladores 200, an association of the descendants of the original forty-four settlers and soldiers that accompanied them.

On Labor Day, take advantage of the closing of “San Pedro’s Golden Gate” and join your fellow runners and walkers, who will fill the fourth-longest expansion bridge in California for the Conquer the Bridge 5 Mile Race. You can compete for the best time (or just the t-shirt) as you race through San Pedro, including two trips over the picturesque Vincent Thomas Bridge, over the scenic 5.3-mile course. Please note that Caltrans requires that the Vincent Thomas Bridge must be re-opened no later than 11:00 a.m. Participants who are still on the bridge at 10:30 a.m. will be picked up by a van and taken down to Harbor Blvd. to finish the race.
